Do not self medicate with iodine in case of hashimoto's disease.

I've had problems with my thyroid for last couple of years. Mostly my tsh is going up and down and my T4 is usually middle of range side of the lab ranges. I've been diagnosed to having hashimoto's like most of hypothyroid people.

I've been battling many times with my doctor to start treatment relieve these thyroid symptoms ie. bad memory, cant concentrate, weight gain, excessive sleeping tired, irritated etc. im sure you people know, but he didn't cause my T4 was inside the lab ranges. Then i started to search on the internet for natural cures and found out Iodine could help and read little bit about it and it seemed safe to use.

I used iodidine about two months(doses ranging 12,5mg to 40mg) and had to stop because my neck started to swell really bad, this was about 6 months ago and its still the same. Now I've been studying more about Iodine and the thing is that excess Iodine can cause goiter just like defiency.

If you are in same situation like me that your thyroid lab results are a bit out of whack DO NOT try to self medicate it with iodine like i did. I really regret that i didnt study more about iodine before i started it. A few months back i was diagnosed with celiac diease and went gluten-free diet, this basicly took all my symptoms away and i dont even think about medication at this point because i feel great except about the fact that my neck is still SWOLLEN!

So basicly all my journey with these hypothyroid symptoms was probably caused by wrong kind of diet. Do NOT listen any anonymous people here who try to tell you that iodine supplements will cure you and im talking about big doses. It can aggravate your thyroid condition, especially if you have hashimoto's. In worst case it might cause swelling that may not go away, especially if you have hashimoto's. So yeah, dont make same mistakes that i did and if your thyroid is acting like mine was, check celiac disease first. Just my 2 cents
