Re: Womens Hair Loss...help
I've gone to a near-vegan plant-based diet to maintain being healed from my worst health condition after curing it with a week-long veggie juice fast. I started really researching the vegan diet because even though it healed one of my health issues, I was worried because of hearing all the countless horror stories about the vegan diet such as your story.
To my surprise, I don't think the vegan diet is inherently flawed, but that almost every failure on it I researched was due to the following reasons:
1- Didn't eat enough (calorie restriction)
2- Ate too much fat
3- Was a junkfood vegan (processed foods, vegan desserts)
4- Too much grains, not enough fruit
Almost every mention I saw of things like hair loss, brittle nails, and low energy were due to simply not eating enough calories and that was the real reason behind any signs of protein or other nutrient deficiency.
I personally recommend going towards the 80-10-10 diet ratio (80% carbs, 10% protein, 10% fats), whether that's partially vegan, cooked, or fully raw, and getting most of your calories from fruits, the food that society has become so phobic of.
The calorie minimums when doing an 811-style diet that I trust are:
Females = at least 2,500 cal a day
Males = at least 3,000 cal a day
That recommendation is from the current most popular vegan site on the net that I find is the most reputable from all the research I've done.
