As the last poster mentioned, this is an old thread, but Google sent me! I found many of the thread messages interesting.
I agree that eating seeds is normally a healthy idea, but I would not consume the best of them by the handful. I add some daily to other food, usually by grinding in my small seed mill.
I grind 1-1.5 teaspoons of flax seeds daily, for their excellent source of Omega 3, plus they keep me regular. I may adjust the amount of seeds for more, or less, laxative effect - occasionally eliminating them for a day or two.
Flax crackers, or packaged flax cereal, may be ok, but I think more of an advertising promotion. Neither would keep me from reaching for my organic, raw, fresh flax seeds and seed mill - which heats them slightly, but less than typical processing.
Any good ingredient added to replace some wheat is welcomed, as it is impossible to be deficient in wheat.
If flax seeds are not ground -- or at least chewed well, as some here suggested - I doubt if they are well digested.
