Re: Severely hypothyroid but also low adrenals, need help please!!

Hi Galico,

It sounds like you've been through it sweetie *hugs*

I'm not an expert and know i can't help you much, but i am beginning to get a better understanding that the adrenals need support and to be stronger to handle any thyroid program.

Dr Lam, who is on here and has his own website, is very informative and could offer a lot of expert guidance. I plan to consult with him.

I had a hair test, and they are informative, however it seems you've done the tests one normally would do after gaining 'indications' from a hair test to get a deeper understanding of your imbalances. They are not conclusive in and of themselves in my opinion (the same with any test - further tests always need to be done to gain a clearer overall picture of health) and the dietary protocols and supplemental recommendations *might* be detrimental.

For example, my hair test from a highly reputable U.S lab showed elevated calcium. The supplemental recommendations were to include calcium. This was a linear recommendation due to my magnesium being off the charts - so calcium was recommended in order to bring about a better Cal/Mag ratio.

However, if i were to be suffering with a hyper-PARAthyroid, including a calcium supplement would elevate calcium serum levels even further - making me feel even worse...and certainly not addressing the root cause of the elevated calcium - in most cases, the parathyroid.

It has been useful to receive the hair test as i said - but it's important to use your personal discernment regarding dietary and supplemental recommendations as it's impossible for the lab to know your full health status.

Huge luck to you on your journey...try to ascertain what your true adrenal function is - get someone knowledgeable (dr lam perhaps) to interpret the results you already have if they're completely confusing to you. I'm very lost in the world of understanding hormones!

You're at least in the right place to hear from others who are in your position :-)
