Re: Antidepressants?
I wouldn't recommend antidepressants just because if your condition is triggered by meds then it can make the situation worse.
I have antidepressants that I keep on hand. If I get REALLY depressed and I've tried everything else I'll take one but I'll usually avoid people for a few days to give it time to flush out of my system.
What I find works better is this: meditation, exercise, vitamin supplementation, time in the sun. I know it sounds simple but everything combined really does make a difference. If you're not getting enough B vitamins, vitamin D, potassium or iron - it will be harder for you to function normally and not feel burnt out.
I suffered from severe
Depression for years. Off and on I'll get depressed but it's nothing like it used to be. With meditation, exercise and making sure I'm getting the nutrients I need in my diet - I'm able to feel content most days.
I like to think of it as though I'm nurturing myself. I try to do for myself what I would do for someone else who was going through a hard time. Sometimes it can be easier to care for other people, but we often neglect ourselves.
Here are some things I do to pamper myself: I try to fix appetizing meals (as much as they can be), I cuddle up and watch good movies (especially comedies), I spend time outside and appreciate nature, I keep up my image (buy new clothes, get my hair done, etc), I read books on spirituality and the psyche, exercise, and journal writing.
I also set small goals for myself. I break up my life into several major categories and try to work on goals from each category ever day. Some days I just relax, but focusing on goals really helps to keep me motivated.
