I don't konw the real answer to your problem, but do know a stretched ligament can cause a lot of pain and takes longer than a bone to heal. Looks like some nerves are involved.

There are good chiropractors and bad chiropractors, but I've more often than not seen them do too rigorous a treatment and made me much worse off than I was before I started going to them. Again, it was ligaments in the spinal column with me.

I don't imagine you had the pre-conceived idea you were going to hurt yourself or planned to hurt yourself when you reached for your alarm clock.

Sometimes it's real easy to hurt yourself by just moving wrong. The best thing IMO to do is to study proper body mechnics and practice them all the time.
