I am 2 months shy of being 21. I have had reoccurring pilonidal cysts since I was 11 years old. I was told I would need the surgery to completely clean out the problem, but I have opted out of going the surgical route for the percentage of "success". 40%-50% is way too low to risk it coming back after going thru all of that. In the almost 10 years that I've had this issue, I've probably had 50+ cysts that pop up randomly. Sometimes once a month. I've become so used to the excruciating pain and unfortunately learned to deal with it. Mine always end up popping (draining) on their own and healing with no problem. But I have sooooo much scar tissue built up where the cyst comes back. Its so ugly "back there". I feel everyone's pain that goes thru this horrible ordeal. I hope medical Science finds a PERMANENT solution for this problem soon...
