Alternatives to Root Canals?

I have read the work of Weston A. Price about how root canals are really toxic because the bacteria can continue to live and thrive in the tooth but the immune system can't get to them because the tooth is now dead.

In specific, it's supposed to be really bad for those with neurological problems... or is said to even cause neurological problems, which I deal with. So I want to get them taken care of but I don't know what to do.

Has anybody ever heard of this? What do you do if you already have a root canal?? Just have them pull the tooth and leave a hole there?? What do you fill it in with?
