CLEANING AND CARE OF FILTER CLOTHS AND BAGS

The cleaner you keep the cloths and bags the longer they will last. Rinse them thoroughly

after you have finished juicing.

Immediately after use turn the bags inside out and run cold water through them. Fill the

bags with cold water, hold the top closed and squeeze the water out through the bags

several times to rinse thoroughly. Then turn the bag back the way it was (with the long

seam showing) and repeat. If you are using flat filter cloths rinse them well in cold

water. Rinse again, fold wet, place in plastic bags and store in freezer to keep them

clean and bacteria free until their next use.

When next ready to juice, thaw in cold water, press out the excess water and go ahead.

WARNING: If cloths and bags are allowed to dry before washing, the minerals in the

juices will coat the fabrics so that they will become brittle and no longer porous. If they

are immediately rinsed in hot instead of cold water, the result will be much the same.

Either way, the lives of the cloths and bags will be much shorter.

Occasionally bags and cloths may be hand washed. Use warm water for washing (DO

NOT BOIL). Then rinse again with cold water, fold wet, place in plastic bags and store

in freezer. For cleaning agents we recommend bio-degradable, non toxic cleaners such

as Basic H, LOC, Bartender's Friend, or similar products available at larger neighborhood markets.

If you will follow these instructions your filters should remain soft and last a long, long time.

NOTE: It will greatly simplify juicing and handling if the cloths and bags are always kept

folded as they were when you first received them.

The main trick is to clean them in water before the juice dries and put them in the freezer.

Otherwise the minerals will deposit and clog them.

You might try soaking them in a citric acid water solution to remove the minerals in already clogged filters. Don't know if this works as I never have used a Norwalk but is does work when cleaning my water distiller.
