The liver-flush involves the biliary system both the liver, gallbladder and biliary tree. Stones do form in the liver and these may be washed out, but the bile from the liver is water soluble so it will disperse but the watery diarrhoea ensure that it is expelled from the body rather than reabsorbed. This forces the liver to accumulate fresh bile. Bile from the gallbladder is hydrophobic (not water soluble) so it appears as green globs, the brighter and softer the newer the bile. Biliary tree cell debris from liver is also washed out; thought to the 'chaff' that is sometimes seen. There is other debris such as parasites, infection, true stones, the core of a blocked duct, etc.
