Some steps to help osteoporosis

I thought I would post this past post from someone named althealer on yahoo answers He always gave good advise

I have put some note in red

He says:

Here are some ideas to use to heal the issue.

Quick Action Plan for Osteoporosis

1. One of the most important steps you can take to prevent and reverse osteoporosis is to follow an organic, whole foods diet that emphasizes plenty of fresh, organic leafy green vegetables throughout the day, along with whole grains, beans, legumes, nuts, seeds, and limited amounts of raw dairy and fish rich in essential fatty acids, such as cod, mackerel, salmon, and sardines. Red meats should be limited to no more than three meals per week, and your overall protein intake should not exceed more than 44 grams per day.

note from knowledge seeker
--I personally would amend this to leave out all animal and become a vegan

2. Avoid all commercial, processed and refined foods including white flour, salt, soda, and sugar, and limit your intake of alcohol, caffeine, pasteurized dairy products and milk.

3. Aluminum products such as aluminum cookware, commercial antacids and antiperspirants, should also be avoided.

4. Supplement with calcium aspartate, citrate or lactate, along with equal amounts of magnesium (800 to 1,500 mg of each mineral). Also supplement with vitamin A, B-complex, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, vitamin C, vitamin D3, vitamin K, boron, copper, folic acid, manganese, and zinc.

note from knowledge seeker--personally it may be that calcium is overrated and magnesium is where it is at

see this article

5. Adequate amounts of essential fatty acids are important. Omega-3 EFAs are found in fish oils and EPA, while omega-6 EFAs can be obtained from black currant, borage, and evening primrose oils.

note from knowledge seeker--an excellent plant source is chia seeds (sold under name salba) contains about 2700 mg of omega three oil a tbs and is a superfood

6. Natural microcrystalline calcium hydroxyapatite complex (MCHC), which contains calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, and natural fluoride in the same proportions as healthy bone tissue, is another excellent nutritional supplement for osteoporosis.

7. Avoid the use of synthetic hormone therapy, including synthetic estrogen, which can actually worsen osteoporosis symptoms, as well as dramatically increase your risk of serious side effects, including heart disease and cancer.

8. Natural progresterone cream in a three percent solution can be applied in a dose of 1/4 teaspoon per night for two consecutive weeks every month for women who are pre-menopausal, and for three consecutive weeks for women who have entered menopause.

9. Useful herbs for preventing and reversing osteoporosis include alfalfa, berry, black cohosh, buckwheat, chastetree, dandelion root, hops, horsetail, sage, sarsaparilla, shepherd`s purse, sweetbriar, and sage.

10. Bone brew, composed of equal parts horsetail, nettle, and sage, is another excellent herbal remedy for preventing and stopping bone loss.

11. Be sure to regularly engage in a weight bearing exercise program at least three times a week for 30 minutes. Excellent exercise choices include brisk walks, dancing, rebounding on a mini-trampoline, and weight training.

12. Another healthy lifestyle choice is to stop smoking and avoid exposure to secondhand cigarette smoke.

13. Hysterectomies should be avoided if at all possible because of how such operations, even if they leave the ovaries intact, can cause rapid bone loss. 90 percent of all hysterectomies in the U.S. are unnecessary.

14. Finally, seek to avoid or at least reduce your reliance on conventional medications, including antibiotics, anti-seizure medications, blood thinners, and steroids, all of which can cause bone loss and worsen osteoporosis symptoms.

Herbal Aids
1.Calcium and Trace Minerals: Currently of intense interest, osteoporosis is supposedly treated by taking extra calcium. When a woman with osteoporosis has a blood test, the calcium level is usually not low. But in order to be assimilated, calcium must be present in the body with the appropriate synergistic minerals, in particular phosphorus, which must be approximately twice the amount of calcium, and also silica. Without these minerals, and probably other trace minerals that haven't been linked to the problem yet, the body cannot absorb calcium; it just flows through the body, sometimes depositing and causing gout, arthritis, etc. The amount of calcium in the body doesn't matter; it's the balance you take in foods that's important.

For example, when people have broken bones, if their blood calcium is high and their silica low, the bones heal slowly, but if it's the opposite--with low calcium and high silica--the bones heal rapidly.

note from knowledge seeker-
Too much protein especially animal protein leaches calcium form the bones by making us too acidic and the body responds by trying to use calcium to reduce the acidity see film forks over knives

2.Dr. Christopher's BF&C and Calc formula: Usually the right foods will provide the correct mineral balance that will naturally avoid osteoporosis. The Calc formula as well as the B.F.&C. formula can provide concentrated sources of minerals for those who are chronically deficient.

note from knowledge seeker-I have posted the ingredients to each formula here be sure to use only organic bulk herbs when making it

3.Calcium from Vegetables: When my fingernails have become soft in the past, I have taken calcium supplements in order to harden them, without very good results. But when I am eating many raw, leafy greens, the high concentration of proper minerals harden the nails right up.

note from knowledge seeker - calcium from greens is one of the best sources. Dr Schulze master herbalist said noone of his sick and dying patients ever got well form vitamin/mineral supplements but fresh food, juices and superfoods helped.

4.Apple Cider Vinegar and Honey: If your diet is adequate and you are still out of balance, it may be that you are not digesting your food properly; this especially occurs later in life, when the body doesn't produce adequate hydrochloric acid for digestion. The apple cider vinegar and honey mixture--a tablespoon of vinegar and a teaspoon of honey mixed well into a cup of distilled water--taken three times a day, can correct a hydrochloric acid deficiency

note from knowledge seeker-
this is good for arthritis so it should help I think see 2nd book here on vinegar and where calcium goes etc for more on the topic from Dr Jarvis and also the 1st book by Dr Jensen talks about osteoporosis

Also Victoria Boutenko's book greens for life has a chapter ion hydrochloric acid that is interesting
