Re: My Story
I would not recommend asking Dr. McCombs for help with this. I followed his plan for months and only got worse. Now that I have learned a lot more about leaky guy/digestive issues, I understand why.
He has you eat lots of raw foods -- when your digestive tract is raw and inflamed (as it likely is if you have bad candida and/or leaky gut) all that fiber just irritates it more. I would wake up each morning with a throbbing colon on his plan.
Secondly -- he has you eating several things that are highly allergenic (Bragg's Aminos, for example, which are soy and many, many people are highly allergic to soy). The only allergy type symptoms he mentions watching out for are getting mucous in your throat, but that is but one of many indicators you are reacting to a substance.
He has you avoid things like ghee (which has only trace amounts of casein and no lactose) which most people don't react to, and when you ask him why, he'll give you his pat answer of, "People on the plan just don't seem to do well with that." He doesn't tell you what problems they have with it and the truth is, he just gives that response whenever he doesn't know the answer.
It's not for everyone, but a program like the Specific Carbohydrate diet or the GAPS program are scientifically proven to heal leaky gut and the candida issues often associated with it, but again, they aren't for everyone.
My point in writing this is that if I hadn't followed McCombs' plan for 6 months, making myself worse the whole time, I might have actually been well on my way to healing by now.
