The basic principle of zappers is that they produce many frequencies at once in hope of getting a frequency that is close to the one that you need. An example for the base frequency 2280 is:

You will notice that each increment is 4560 Hz apart which means the the greatest difference between a harmonic and the actual frequency will be 2280 Hz and is often closer to one frequency or another.

However, if you use a multi-frequency zapper, a different base frequency will produce a different set of harmonics which will be closer to some desired frequencies and further from others.

Assuming that you are trying for frequencies of 162000 and 163000.


The 71st harmonic of 2280 will be closer to the 162000 Hz signal while the 77th harmonic of 2127 will be closer to the 163000 frequency.

So you can see that a zapper with 2 frequencies will be better than a zapper with only one. You can also see that a zapper with 9 frequencies or even 23 frequencies will have a base frequency that will put you closer to any desired frequency.

The purpose of a zapper is, essentially, that you do not have to worry about frequency because in many cases, it does not have to be exact, only close. Closer is, however, better and exact is best. The problem is that exact costs a lot more. The use of multiple frequencies can overcome the need for exact and save some money.
