Re: Update on Gastritis + Orange Coated Tongue
My questions are:
1. Should I continue with Slippery Elm, Licorice, L-glutamine?
Yes. The slippery elm will help protect the stomach from more ulceration. The licorice will help with the gastritis and the glutamine can also help protect the stomach.
Being that they ruled out H. pylori as the cause of the ulcers then I would suspect you are possibly taking some sort of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID): aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, celecoxib, etc. NSAIDs can lead to ulcers by inhibiting a form of prostaglandin that is required for the production of the stomach's protective lining.
2. What is Gastroesophagal Carditis. I suspect that is what is causing me pain in the left side of the chest when belching and sometimes swallowing food.
Carditis is a chronic inflammation of the gastroesophageal junction, which is right next to the lower esophageal sphincter (LES).
What should I do about it?
The licorice root should help being it is a strong anti-inflammatory and it helps build the adrenals which is the body's anti-inflammatory source.
Figuring out why you have the reflux and correcting that will also help. It could just be the hiatal hernia.
3. What is causing Orange Tongue?
There are several oral bacterial such as Fusobacterium species that can cause an orange tongue from overgrowth.
Should I try Xylitol Gum or Zinc Tablets which are the recommendations of HV for White coating on the tongue.
I would try sucking on zinc tablets first. Remember to swish the saliva around when sucking on the zinc tablet so it coats all of the inside of the mouth.
4. Should I continue with the same diet i.e. avoiding all spices especially cayenne pepper.
With the gastritis and ulcerations avoiding spices right now would be a good idea.
5. Should I drink kefir? Advise regarding Kefir is conflicting. It is acidic, could it aggravate ulcers or does it heal ulcers and other gastric inflammation?
The kefir is still good for the body so I would still take it. But taking it with the slippery elm can help coat the stomach to reduce or prevent any irritation.
6. I would like to start taking ACV, TMG, Coconut Oil, Lecithin, Magnesium Malate, Grape Bitters, Fish Oil etc. When can I start those?
The two I would avoid right now are the ACV and bitters until you get to root of the gastritis problem. Besides the bitters are not going to do much good when you are taking acid blockers.
7. Any other Herbal and Dietary recommendations.
I suggest starting with the above until you have more information on what might be causing the gastritis and ulcerations. H. pylori and some medications such as NSAIDs are the most common reasons.
8. Does Hiatal Hernia cause all these problems?
It can cause the reflux.
Right now I am on Protonix 40 mg, cozar 100mg and Norvasc 5 mg.
P.s. Hv you are absolutely correct about Hiatal Hernia which my doctor or myself never suspected.
Glad you got that checked.
