Re: Why EVERYONE over 50 needs to be taking statins

In 96' my GP advised I go on Lipitor after measuring my cholesterol around 315. I got the first prescription filled and took the first dose in the morning but by afternoon I noticed a distinct change in my mood and mental state ... whether it was due the pills or sun spots or coincidence I pitched the bottle and never took another. Within a day or two mental state and mood had gone back to normal. At that time I was still a few years away from discovering alternative health so I did not do anything to sub for the Lipitor that got pitched into the garbage. I was a moderate smoker of nearly 20 years at that point and over weight. Over the years since then on subsequent visits to the doc, which became increasingly fewer as I eventually began to educate on self heatlth, whether it was my primary GP or somebody filling in on that particular day, there would be the occasional glance at the clipboard / file ( the dossier they keep on patients.....visions of Elaine and Seinfeld....no shot, dog bite, woof woof, not bang bang.....) that would invariably lead to " ... so you are not taking the Lipitor anymore?"

In 2011' I had a full blood work up done by the same clinic .... the healthcare provider / insurer / banker has changed hands and names several times since 96' but its the same medical clinic with some of the same doctors and nurses...just different corp names and logos associated with this operation, but they did a full blood test and among the results , cholesterol, 220 " ... um, cough, thats getting close to being borderline high, we'll need to keep an eye on that..... " and then they quickly move the conversation to the next topic without word one about " ... so how DID you get from 315 to 220?" HAHA!

The three main things I'm doing differently today compared to 96' is that I've been off cigs for a bit over 2 years, getting regular exercise, and since roughtly 2006 have been taking a single daily dose of home made heart tincture - hawthorn / cayenne / garlic / ginger - and that is it.
