Re: Parathyroid

Hi I had the same symptoms plus abdominal pain and pains in the joint especially the wrist when trying to take off a lid of a jar or hammering. I'm 47 and fit and strong usually but over a couple of years went down hill. I had low high reading calcium, heart palpitations, tired all the time, irritable. So many symptoms I could go on. I had my PTH levels checked which were high. I was sent to an econologist here in QLD Australia and was told not to worry come back in six months time, level are too low for surgery. I ended up in hospital during our floods with appendicitis symptoms. Scans showed appendix normal. Was on the way for another scan and I crashed, the doctors got the crash cart out and got me going again. More test showed I had pancreatitis. Two days in hospital and I was sent home with no answer what caused it. It was later after studying the internet, I figured I had hyperparathyroid. Found one of Australias best surgeons, Julie Miller in Melbourn, origially from USA, she couldn't believe what I had gone through. With the help of Dr Miller I had a massive parathyroid tumour removed. My pth levels went down to normal within minutes of this simple operation, then the pain and tension in my appendix relaxed within an hour of the operation and never came back. Recovery after was a little slower getting my fitness back and my bones strong again. Now I can take those lids off the jars like I did when I was 25 years old and my kids are happy to have an active dad again to take them places and do thing I just couldn't be bothered doing before. My word of advise is if you have raised calcium levels and high PTh levels find a specialist and have your tumour removed. You will not regret it, get your life back.
