harvesting and cleaning cleavers

Hi all, I am collecting and cleaning cleavers from my yard. What's the best way to make sure they are clean and ready to dry? I am soaking them in Bentonite clay but am wondering if there is anything else i can do seeing how they are very sticky. Thanks, Jenn
