Re: increasing breastmilk supply

A friend of mine with a 2 month old baby is struggling with a dwindling milk supply. The mother has had antibiotics regularly over the last 4-5 months for respiratory infections and then (mostly recently) a UTI and mastitis. She just had an allergic reaction to the most recent antibiotic, and I'm worried about her. Are the Adrenal Tonic herbs safe for a nursing mother?

Yes.

I think she needs to rebuild her immune system. Are the Big 3 (pau d'arco, andographis, and chaparral) okay with nursing?

The andrographis in particular would likely pass in to the milk making it very bitter.  Therefore, it is not advised.  The Adrenal Tonic has immune boosters as well.

Any suggestions to increase milk supply?

Goat's rue is the most effective, but can be hard to find.  Fenugreek is also very effective and is readily available.

Nettle leaf can be used to increase the nutritional value of the milk.
