I was in Myanmar (Burma) a few years ago. Myanmar is on the Bay of Bengal and share borders with China, India, Laos, and Thailand.

Available there were dates fermented in steer urine. It was important that it was steer (males) and not cow (female) urine. They were offered as medicine -- I think it was for digestive disorders. I tried a few: "Musty" is all I can say. Not really a snack item. They filled 55 gallon drums with dates and urine and steeped them in the sun for three or four months until they were ready.
