Possible solution to long term side effects of Mirena IUD

I had the Mirena for 3 months and didn't like it. Had many symptoms, depression, fogginess, sharp pains in head, hair loss, no libido etc etc. Had it removed 3 months ago and had the crash etc etc.

More recently I've been experiencing after effects including muscle spasms, twitching, tremor/vibrating, high blood pressure, intracranial hypertension (aka head pressure), blood shot eyes, sinus problems, funny vision, anxiety, exhaustion. I've been doing lots of research and I think I've found the SOLUTION.

COPPER TOXICITY/ZINC DEFICIENCY

The Mirena contains a synthetic progesterone which in effect stops the body from making it's own. The balance between estrogen and progesterone is very delicate and if there is not enough progesterone being made then estrogen dominance occurs. After removal it takes a while for your ovaries to produce enough progesterone again.

One of the effects of estrogen is the retention of copper. Copper and zinc balance each other out so when there is too much copper there is not enough zinc. Copper builds up in the brain and in the liver causing neurological symptoms such as spasms, headaches, and it also conducts electricity which may explain the tremors.

The thyroid gland is also very sensitive to copper and too much can cause both hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism.

When your ovaries are not producing enough progesterone the adrenal gland steps up it's production of progesterone, but that means it is also producing an excess of adrenaline, and corticosteroids. The one irregularity I had in my blood tests is that I have too much cortisol in my blood which would indicate an overactive adrenal gland. An overactive adrenal gland would also account for symptoms such as anxiety because of the excess adrenaline being produced. Eventually an overactive adrenal gland can result in adrenal fatigue because it becomes exhausted.

Now if this is what is happening to me and so many people who've had the Mirena then there are a couple of steps to take. The underlying problem is balancing estrogen and progesterone. I'm doing that by taking a supplement called Angus Castus (Chasteberry) which has been proven to regulate hormones and stop estrogen dominance, although it takes a while to work (1 -3 months). Another possible solution could be natural progesterone cream but that is just a replacement and won't help your body make it's own. If you want to go down that route please read up about the cream first as applying it to fatty areas can cause a build up of progesterone in fat cells which could make things worse.

As for the copper retention, I am going on a detox and taking extra supplements of zinc, magnesium, vitamin c, and vitamin B6. These all help mobilise retained copper and get rid of it, but the problem is due to the extra copper entering the blood stream symptoms can seem to get worse before they get better. There are certain foods to avoid, more info in the link.

For anyone suffering with head pressure as I have been, I've been taking Tumeric capsules which have a great anti-inflammatory effect and have reduced the pressure quite a bit.

Except of the Tumeric, none of the other stuff will work over night but I am confident this is the solution I've been looking for and have started on my detox/supplements. Hope this will be helpful to some people who can't work out what's going on because it seems even the doctors are mystified! I'll keep you posted on my progress!
