I've started taking 1 1/2 tablespoons of ghee today. This only provides around 25% of the therapeutic dose of butyric acid. However the other short and long chain fatty acids in ghee may also be beneficial. Ghee is touted as being good for leaky bowel.
Once you take more than about 1 1/2 tablespoons of ghee (or butter) you run the risk of increasing cholesterol levels and increasing the chance of heart disease. I'm not saying this is a high risk, just that up to 1 1/2 tablespoons ghee actually improves heart health, while any more is detrimental.
