Each ingredient in the alkalizing drink has its purpose. The pickling lime powder (calcium hydroxide) used to make the pickling lime water is an alkalizing agent which provides calcium.

Vitamin C is an acid and does not provide any mineral and therefore is not a substitute to calcium hydroxide.
