You can't generalize that the whole body needs to be alkaline. The body is a complex mix of different organs and each one of them has its' own need for certain acidity/alkalinity. Vagina needs to be acidic as well as stomach, etc. Generally speaking and as far as I know, eating alkaline food like vegetables have beneficial effect on internal organs because such food feeds beneficial bacteria which in return produce enough acid to keep harmful bacteria and yeast at bay.
