Update on my thyroid and new diagnoses

Hello there fellow iodiners.........

If you look at my past posts, I was doing Iodine for a few years, and really liked the benefits in the beginning.

One obstacle I kept having was constant deficiencies. I was anemic, low magnesium, and lots of gas.

I went to my local natural doctor this past September, and his feeling about Iodine was it was great as long as you don't have hashimotos. He suggested I get tested. I resisted so he said at the very least, start a gluten free diet because there is a strong connection between thyroid problems and gluten intolerance.

So, as of mid September, I was completely gluten free. No gluten at all. Would cook everything home and from scratch. Within a few days/weeks, I got really sick feeling. My 18 year old was doing it with me and she was getting bad anxiety. Our reaction to taking gluten out was immense. We both felt so sick.

After a few more weeks, I started feeling that lump in my throat feeling and almost felt hyper thyroid! I told my ND that I wasn't sure what was going on but that I think my thyroid has begun to swing from hypo to hyper.

He felt it was time to do blood work. Lo and behold, I had really low iron, vitamin D was 25 and I had Hashimotos!!!!! This had me so perplexed as I had no symptoms of hashis until I took gluten out of my diet.

The doctor thinks my immune system was suppressed for so long that now it started to react. Now, I have a very light, but long period going on and I feel really anemic. I feel worse since taking gluten out but hope that this is temporary. The ND says no more Iodine as it will aggravate the hashis!

I just bought the Sunsplash lamp from Mercola to try and get my vitamin D levels up as I think all these things are related.

Anyway, I will test my vitamin D and hashi antibodies in a few weeks but this really stinks......any thoughts?
