Re: Healthy good tasting gluten free protein / green drink?

In Victoria Boutenko's book green for life she addresses the topic of protein.

She is one of the experts on greens and her website is rawfamily.com

Victoria believes that greens should be a separate food group as they are quite different from veggies and contain far more nutrition,

In fact, most greens contain the RDA of every nutrient but vitamin b 12.

They are extremely rich in protein. She chose kale as it is so commonly used and available and lambs quarter as it grows so many places and found a pound of kale or lambs quarter contained or exceeded the RDA for protein.  In fact, the cow eats grasses and gets enough protein for its much larger needs.

She categorically states with that is one eats/drinks a variety of greens in their diet, they can meet all of their protein needs.

She stresses variety and changing the green you are using to make your green smoothies each day is important as eating the same one every single day can make one sick due to the plants having toxins to keep the animals eating them not eating them all and uses several area plants lest they become extinct as well as some greens being lower in some nutrients and others making up for it  by being higher and visa versa.an assortment of greens can give you all the nutrients you need except for b12 and all the protein.

Also the average meat eater gets three times too much protein and the average vegetarian gets two times too much, Also some researchers now think the amount we need is much less than previously thought.

So that means you can just leave out the protein part of it and go right to fresh green smoothies.

You can make such a variety that you are sure to find several you like. Victoria cured her family of incurable incurable illnesses like type one diabetes and so forth by becoming a 100% raw vegan and has been on a totally raw diet of organic foods for maybe 17 years but now feel green smoothies are even more important than eating all raw.

To make a green smoothie (and you can add the stems cutting off just the bottom one inch if desired) you mix greens and fruit and water.

She recommends not adding protein powder and other supplements to it as this can have a negative effect but I have added raw agave nectar or other natural sweetener if needed.

Chose from any of these or other greens you make find:

kale (any variety), collard greens, Swiss chard, green leafy tops of carrots, turnips, bets, radishes, daikon, parsley root etc, spinach, parsley, watercress, bok choy, romaine, arugula, mache and other other dark lettuces (not iceberg), celery, broccoli, dandelion greens, any Asian market green, and safe wild greens like lambs quarter, purslane,. plantain, grape leaves, leaves and caps of berries, leaves of daisies, dandelion greens, etc and herbs like basil, lemon balm, dill and so forth.

To this add any fruit or combination of fruits you like

Some of these are as follows:

apples pears, peaches, nectarines, grapes, citrus fruits, coconut and young coconut water, melons, berries, pineapple, mango and other tropical fruits, kiwi, persimmon,s lychee nuts and so forth along with water.

You can also use veggies if desired.

Try to use a vitamix if possible or strain some of the fiber out if desired.

With the fiber these last longer than fresh juices which should be drank within 20 minutes..these last 2 or 3 days in the refrigerator when keep in capped glass jars.

You can find some interesting ones that use a plethora of fruits and greens including wild greens in her book green smoothie revolution or online at raw food sites or on YouTube.

I recommend after you try it you write down if it was one you liked or not till you get a good collection of ones you like for an assortment of greens and fruits/veggies.

Once you start buying these greens fresh and keep them in those little Debbie green bags, you will see it is not much harder and a lot healthier than using powdered mixes as well as giving you some much variety and good taste, I hope you will start using these more and more.

And speaking of being healthy, Boutenko did an experiment on a whole town of people asking them to make no diet changes other than to drink one quart of green smoothies they brought everyone daily,. At the end of the month, they completed a survey.  All reported positive health improvements like wight loss, better digestion and elimination, better sleep, more energy and so forth and all said they were going to continue drinking them when the study was over as they felt so good...and this is with no other dietary change.

You could could dehydrate your own greens using a dehydrator like Excalibur that keeps the food raw by not heating too much by setting it at 105 degrees and mix that with fruit if desired. Also when dehydrated one can make yummy kale chips..I massage them in raw apple cider vinegar and raw sea salt..some use extra virgin olive oil and sea salt and pepper to make delicious kale chips.

Then you could pick various greens if you do not happen to have any fresh that day to mix with your fruits but I feel fresh is better.
