Re: Chris Hedges
Only just had the time to read this today and find it "very interesting" from both perspecktives. On the one hand the "old, out-dated" phrases being used here for legitimate reasons. The world / mankind has experienced different "models" of social behaviour: communism, faschism, capitalism to name the main ones most of us are "familiar" with.
As far as the remark about Hitler is concerned: his rhetoric "may" have resonated with some at first - and certainly NOT with the majority. But there being no strong political Party to counteract his fear-mongering BS coupled with the fact that the Weimarer Republic (the elected Party at the time) was on very shaky grounds etc. etc. he "managed" to get enough folk to vote for him and that was the beginning of his fascist dictatorship. Of course, there are a whole bunch of facts that I´ve left out: but this should be enough to give one a brief idea of the situation AT THAT TIME.
Timing - and by that I mean, the evolving consciousness of Man - is what brings about change, as Pepe very nicely put it.
So we can learn from past mistakes and bring about changes that may seem silly some years down the road, but which make a lot of SENSE right now. .... And the beat goes on!
One of these changes - from my point of view - is not to take another person´s view too personally.
SHANTI ! We´re ALL in this together and need to tolerate other´s views, beliefs etc.
