Re: A cure for hyperthyroid??
Hello, I read your message and your husband sounds alot like me, when I was hyperthyroid last year, anyway I was feeling horribe and was so undecided about the RAI treatment, I thought alot about getting the radiation therapy to radiate my thyroid gland I even cancelled 2 appointments to get it done, but finally my heartbeat was so fast and i was feeling so horrible that i decided to get it done.
anyway all I could tell you is that i REGRET ever doing this to myself, I feel a million times worst then I used to I have not solved my problem but made it worst, now I have to take a pill daily for the rest of my life and my doctor has to adjust it almost every month and I still feel horrible,I have no energy, fatigued, joint pain, fast heartbeat, gaining alot of weight, I mean its horrible. actually after the RAI my thyroid level became very low too fast and I developed myxedema coma and I almost died, so if he does get it done tell him to check with his doctor at least every month to check his levels, my doctor told me to go back in 3 months and by the end of the 2nd month I was admitted in the hospital, and with the myxedema coma the doctor said that my organs were shutting down because they were desperately looking for teh thyroid hormones, so just be careful if you do get it done because I thought being HYPERTHYROID was dangerous but HYPOTHYROID was more dangerous.
MY HUSBAND ALSO IS HYPERTHYROID BUT GOT MUCH BETTER
my husband also has hyperthyroid and he had lost 60pds in 3 months and got pretty skinny, and his doctor put him on tapazole and he was on it for 3 years and now for some reason his thyroid is very normal and he no longertakes pills, and his hyperthyroid was so bad that he was admitted in the hospital, so if he overcame it I am sure anyone can, but give the medicine time, If i could do it again I would have taken the tapazole for a few years and I would have given myself a chance but with the RAI treatment its not reversible, so I just wish I would have known more before I got that done, but now I am on armour and feeling horrible, was on synthroid for 9 months and it was horrible, so you can imagine how hard it is to find the right amount of medicine since with the RAi sometimes the thyroid doesnt die completely and thats why medicine needs to be adjusted, in any case I think its best to stay HYPER, but if you decided to do it just understand that its not a cure, at least not for alot of people that I have met online and have told me how the RAI has not worked, good luck on whatever your decision is.
