Parkinson/Cholesterol/Hi Blood Pressure
Hi HV,
My aunt is 85 years old and have been on medications for years for cholesterol (Simvastaten) and hi blood pressure (Metoprolol and Plavix). Besides this, she also has dementia. She has been diagnosed with parkinson for the last 6 months and I think that her meds (Divalproex, Carbidopa/Levo and Comtan)somewhat screwed up her system. I was not sure that she got parkinson but after 6 months of medication, she looks more like she's having it. Now she does not have much facial expression and her movements become more limited. She stops talking. She sleeps or is sleepy/drowsy most of the time, especially during the day. At night, she sometimes wakes up and wanders around. We worry that she may be able to get out of her appartment someday. She got seven teeth left and they are not in good shape. Her doctor advised to have them pulled in order to keep her oral hygiene better because she is not very cooprerating in having her mouth cleaned. She will be given very soft food instead.
I am thinking about getting her off her meds. This is my plan:
1. Replace her cholesterol medecine with bitters and lecithin granules. I am concerned with the bitters because she drinks very little water. Probalbly not more than 2 cups a day. What do you think?
2. Replace her blood thinner Plavix with fish oil.
3. Use Magnesium malate or citrate for her HP med and your cardio tonic
4. For the parkinson, I am planning to use bupleurum ( 5 parts), tyrosine (3 parts) and sage leaf (1 part) to replace her meds. I got this formula in one of your post.
5. Concerning her teeth, is there a different way than having to pull all her teeth. It sounds kind of invasive to me.
What do you think? Should I remove the meds slowly or can I just stop them completely. I feel a little nervous doing this, so please, help to guide me through. I am wondering if I should tell her doctor because she may not agree. But, the way she is treated now, there no quality of life in it at all.
Thank you in advance for your guidance,
LongNhi
PS: Beacuse of her habit of day sleeping and night awaking, it's been suggested to take some melatonin sleep aid for a short while to correct her sleep pattern. What do you think? Is there anything that you could help her to sleep at night? Thanks again for all your help. LN
