MetaMetrix Rules Out Some Yeast/Fungi Genera, I'm Skeptical ???

QUOTE: ["Candida, Rhodotorula, Geotrichum,
Saccharomyces, and Trichosporon species have been ruled out." - Metametrix GI Effects stool test]

thanks for posting. First, this remark is naming the genus, not the species. This remark is in the Interpretive Guide in the section titled Yeast/Fungi Taxonomy Unavailable; not on the actual test results.

IMO It's unlikely MM could rule any of these genera out because special primers are needed to amplify different regions of the DNA to identify species. Newer DNA PCR test methods and primers continue to be developed because fungal growth is such a problem for indwelling medical devices, solid organ transplant victims, and HIV/AIDS patients. Identification is key to finding proper treatment because different mutants have different strategies for survival: hyphae, biofilm, pigmentation, phospholipases, esterases, siderphores.

My Sep 2011 Metametrix says:
"Yeast/Fungi; taxonomy unavailable +2=> 1000 pg DNA/g specimen
A taxonomy unavailable finding may indicate ingested, mold. The higher the number,the greater the indication for treatmment, particularly when accompanied by clinical symptoms."

Candida genus has many species starting with albicans and mutating to glabrata, tropicalis, guillermondi, lutsitaniae--more mutants have been found to cause infection but not necessarily in the gut. Just like overuse of Antibiotics has led to mutant and highly resistant strains of pathogenic bacteria, use of antifungals, particularly Diflucan, has lead to mutant strains of yeasts/fungi. Better PCR testing has led to ID some of them though not necessarily from the gut.
