Re: What about candida overgrowth causes constipation? (Please no conjecture)
I became completly constipated after doing antibacterial substances. My theory is that fecal matter consists of 30-60% flora and the flora produces beneficial acids to generate a bowel movement. Candida crowds out the beneficial flora that produce bowel movements. Candida's alcohol byproducts can cause mucucs production. Mucus can cause delay in transit time, but I think the real cause is the lack of flora caused by the candida crowding out the benefecial flora. Candida does not produce beneficial acids to produce bowel movements. If candida did than i would not be having to get colonics done once a week/using laxatives.
Acids in general help to push the bowels out. For example, your body produces too much HCL you get diarreah. Too much vitamin C will give you diarreah. Too much bile salts has given me diarreah. Flora produces acetic acid, lactic acid, and butyric acids by fermenting fibers/carbs. Its the mass production of these acids that push the bowels out. Thats why eating fiber produces better bowel movements.
My GI doc could not give me a answer of why candida causes constipation. But Ive racked my brain for 2 years on why I became completley constipated and this makes the most sense to me. The more antibacterial substances I took the more i became constipated.
There needs to be more science done on gut ecology. I think if their was more research done on gut ecology than doctors might be a little more careful when they prescribe antibiotics!
