Re: White plaque, geographic tongue and celiac disease
pbchrist, that's the $64 million question!
Candida, parasites, leaky gut, etc. I believe a number of visitors to this forum are attempting to understand the reason for their poor health. And, no doubt like many others, identifying 'candida' as a potential cause gave me something to pin my hopes on.
I followed a strict carb/sugar free diet for approximately three months, while also following the ParaGone and then CandiGone cleanses, and consumed plenty of coconut oil/GSE/oregano oil. However, despite my efforts, I did not experience any typical 'die-off' like symptoms, nor did I notice anything out of the ordinary in my stools.
Of course, with such a long list of potential symptoms, it's very difficult to truly rule-out the possibility of candida. I hope to receive the results from a Genova CDSA 2.0 test within the next week or so, which may complicate matters further, however I felt it was something I needed to pursue as a 'just in case...'.
In recent weeks, I have started to introduce foods back into my diet, beginning with brown rice and mung/adzuki beans. At the weekend I ate warm porridge oats for breakfast, a rice and bean dish for lunch, then a dinner consisting of rice and barley, with sweet potato, kabotcha pumpkin, and spicy spinach soup. If candida was the root cause of my health issues, I expect I would have felt some kind of 'reaction' to this rather carbohydrate-heavy intake. However, my symptoms the following day were just as if I had been eating green leafy vegetables, steamed fish, and no carbs - i.e. no change.
To return to your topic of coated tongue, however, I have been consuming a type of Japanese herbal medicine for several months to assist with constipation. I've had to work with the pharmacist to adjust the potency - sometimes it feels too powerful, other occasions the constipation returns. Currently I am drinking the medicine (a tea) three times a day in between meals, every other day.
I explained to the pharmacist that, while the medicine certainly helps with constipation, I still suffer from a number of other symptoms (headaches, brain fog, fatigue, poor/slow-healing cuts, coated tongue). He has recommended a different formula (in addition to the existing medication) for a one-week trial, which he believe may assist with the other symptoms. I hope to begin this new medication tomorrow.
As noted above, I also intend to make tongue scraping (and possibly mouth washing) a regular habit, although I strongly believe that the mucus build-up is actually a reflection of poor digestion (and/or weak spleen/gallbladder etc., as you noted above), rather than being the root cause.
Well, this is clearly an area that I am interested, so I shall monitor your message closely and update you if there any developments with the new herbal formula.
Take care,
J
