The 1 to 2 pounds of muscle loss in a typical water-only-fast of 30 days, is the combined weight of muscle mass or volume including water.

Muscle tissue in itself is hardly touched upon by what Dr Joel Fuhrman MD describes as protein-sparing.

Similarly, the Heart muscle incurs no losses in the fasting state because of the selective/preserving process of autolysis.
