Re: My First Water Fast

Hello,

I've started day 6 of my Water Fast and today will be my last day. First I will talk about day 5.

Yesterday when I woke up I was so weak and tired. I haven't been sleeping much since I started this water fast. Not sure if it has to do with the detox. The mornings always seem to be the worst for me. Especially yesterday. Being at school was hard and I had to sit sometimes when I was teaching. I did get a burst of energy later on that morning but after the lunch hour I was weak I had to lean on something when I had to stand.

My muscles by my ribs were hurting a lot and my legs were also hurting.

I found myself to be drinking water easily too. When I started the fast, drinking 500mL in one sitting seemed like a chore and I had to remind myself and keep track of drinking water and how much I needed to drink. Now I just chug is back, which is funny sometimes cause I would be busy on my computer and when I pick up my glass I was like "Oh?!, I finished it".

At the end of Day 5 I decided to do some yoga and stretching and a bit of toning, just to get my legs moving a bit more to get the pain out. It is amazing the difference between doing yoga on a juice fast. My body shrinking a bit has made me a bit more flexible also I feel the burn of the exercise more. I do taekwondo and I decided to skip out on classes for this week. I knew the workout would just drain me. I have a hard enough time climbing stairs.

I was also craving Korean food again, the smells of food places made me think about food. BUT, I did not want to eat.
I feel like this Water Fast has also helped me to control my food cravings. I would think, "Oh, I would like to have those cookies in my freezer, but that's ok" My strong urge to have them has diminished.

Day 6, today- I woke up not as weak as yesterday but still found it hard to get up. When I walked up the hill to school today I made sure to take some deep breaths and I walked slow not rushing myself. That helped a lot.

I decided to end the fast today, for the reasons that I would like some of my energy back so I can exercises regularly. Walking for awhile is becoming very tiring. I also have a history of iron anemia so I don't want to draw out the fast longer then I should. I also feel confident about my progress and my mind seems to be quite focused. I feel determined to get some things done that I've put on hold for awhile. Today I will have water with lemon juice and then also have some tea with lemon juice. Tomorrow morning I will mix Sea Salt with water to flush out my system and get whatever is stuck in the colon out.

Today I wrote out a "Breaking Fast" plan/recipe for the next 7 days so I can ease my way back into solid foods. I picked some recipes that are healthy and seem tasty too. I am also going to experience with some new snack ideas that I've never tried.

Starting tomorrow November 19, I will start my juice fast and do that for 2 or 3 days and then introduce solid fruits and veggies and soup for 2 days, followed by some rice, veggies and with seeds and nuts, then yogurt and eggs. For my final breaking fast meal my plan is to have congee (rice porridge) This place near where I live makes very good congee with different vegetables or chicken. I thought it would be a good way to re-introduce meat into my system again. The congee with ginger and chicken has very thinly slice chicken in it, so small that when I first tried it I thought it was some type of vegetable or root. This is when I will decide if I want to continue eating as a vegetarian or not. I have always eaten vegetarian meal but would eat chicken on occasions. I guess I will decide then.

My only concern is Korean food, I have to be careful on what I choose to eat from now on. I mostly want to avoid the salty foods or any of the "extra" spicy foods that is dumped with the korean hot sauce. They don't cheap out on adding that stuff.

My goal is to also start to do some extra cardio 3 times a week. While taekwondo is a good workout, it mainly works muscles, flexibility and endurance. I would like some more cardio so I may start jogging for a short term (I have jumper's knee in my right knee so I have to be careful) And extra toning up is what I need to do too. I started doing squats, lunges and sit-ups while I also do yoga.

I think in the future I will do a Water Fast again and aim for 15 days, but I will be sure to do it a time where I am not tied down by work or people offering me food all the time.

I have to say I am very happy with my will power to do this, for a time I thought I couldn't. It has made me feel the I can strive to do anything if I work hard at it, whether it is a fast or other obstacles in life.
