can someone with esophageal varices uses these supplements?

Hi,

Can someone with cirrhosis of the liver, portal hypertension, and esophageal varices uses these
1- milk thistle
2- selenium
3- alpha lipoic acid

Would it help or hurt them???
One should be careful with liver problems, so I'm asking for my friend before he starts on those supplements.
