Re: Water fast to jump start new healthy lifestyle:)
hello there and welcome !
You remind me the beginning when I start fasting just over 1.5 ago...we all sound the same way-very driven, ambicious and focused on the right thing..I remembered dreaming about fast to completion and 30-40 days sounded like a piece of cake...My life was all about numbers 30 or 40,beginners love to plan long fasts...
Let me just tell you what actually happened in real life
I couldnt make more than 10-11 days fasting at the time,my body was so toxic that I woudnt make it any longer...Pretty soon I could go 16-21 days.My health started improving right way, just to mention few facts- my high blood pressure disapeared after day 4-5 on first fast, my first (and only) severe detox was a month later...After every fast I felt better and better overall and I focused more on re-feeding (never had any problems there ) and the diet afterwards ( big big big change for me )
I knew I am very disciplined and persistent person that usually achieve my goals with ease and determination. Let me tell you,not this time around. Switching from regular diet to a healthy eating habits took me longer then anything else I had dealt with:)
first I stopped the red meat and salt consumtion, the chocolate and cafeine ,and drastically reduced the poultry. Just when I started feeling better about the whole thing, after my summer fast last year (3rd or 4th),I hit a rough patch of very extreme emotions (not really typical for me ) accompanied with nonstop hunger (!!!)and cravings (!!!) for a particular " bad" food..I coulnt fight this mess,it was day after day struggle till I went back to water fastiing again..It was horrible period of ridiculously strong emotional eating and thank God, never came back
Then, after this huge misery and disappointment, everything started imroving very fast..All demons, emotional eating, cravings were gone...Later I could focus on vegetarianism more and more, my body adjusted better and better...Still have problems turning to a vegan, but I am working on it - still eat eggs 1 /weekly
To conclude,
Water Fasting is like a tango I should have known - 2 steps forward and 1 backwards. We get frustrated with the weight fluctuation or the occasional overeating/ cheating/failures in the begging...I tried to stay focused on the priorities. Numbers are just that - numbers, 30-40 days fast is a big deal and I am not even thinking to go there soon. Fast to completion ? I dont know, hopefully in this life time :)
Most important experience for me - the body REALLY tells us what to do and I learn to REALLY listen to it.
Water Fasting is very powerfull thing and I wouldnt trade it for nothing - It is a beautiful and easy and healthy and powerfull experience
I am not going back to mine old ways, my body woudnt allow it now :)
good luck and happy fasting,
V
