Re: Not sure what to make of this research about Blasto

yes hard to say...but good they try to find out what is effective in killing this bug. Strange they found Flagyl so effective in that paper. Can the reason of its low cure rate be related its low effectivity on killing cysts? or is it mainly sub-type specific. Also here seems to be more questions than answers.

Blasot poissible also linked to some cases of diabetes...but not clear.

Blastocystis hominis Treatable Cause of Diabetic Diarrhea
Diabetes Care August 1990 13:906-907; doi:10.2337/diacare.13.8.906

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2209335

"B. hominis has been associated with diabetes (41, 51, 162, 168) and leukemia (65). None of these associations have been substantiated and often are based on single case studies."

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC172910/pdf/090563.pdf

another peper linking Blasto to increased risk of colon cancer

http://www.springerlink.com/content/25u845x065185vqq/

"Solubilized antigen of Blastocystis hominis facilitates the growth of human colorectal cancer cells, HCT116"

"Therefore, there is a vital need to screen colorectal cancer patients for B. hominis infection as it possesses the ability to enhance the tumor growth."

Someone posted this before possibly, but here again. August 2011 paper

"Blastocystis infection is associated with irritable bowel syndrome in a Mexican patient population"

But in many countries with highly developed medical system Blastocystis is considered non-pathogen by most doctors!! Many labs do not look for it, use lousy test methods, do not report it, do not treat it, treat it far from optimally... He he, crazy world
