A reader responds with their own experience with bone drugs
I have received several stories about the dangers of bone drugs as a result of my articles and posts. Here is the latest one, which came in today from a reader at Rumor Mill News:
I would like to tell my story and boy do I have a story to tell......
Approximately 5 years ago my doctor prescribed Fosamax as a preventive. You take one capsule per week and hope it works. It worked alright - it overworked. I accidently cracked a tooth, hurried to my dentist, she ex-rayed and said it was cracked at the root. She proceeded to remove and the tooth crumbled. She immediately sent me to an oral surgeon at one of our local hospitals here in Texas. He looked in my mouth and said - "You have been taking fosamax, haven't you". Since I was not a regular patient I had to wait my turn. By the time the` doc got to me the numbness was wearing off. The tooth had to be jack hammered if there is such a thing. My jaw bone had grown around the root of the tooth. This is just the first tooth.
Same thing happened to two more teeth and had to follow the same procedure. The jaw bone had again grown around the root of the teeth. There's nothing like wearing an expensive partial that I hate.
So much for the teeth and now I will tell you about the hip bone. I am a slim person, 5'6 or 7" and weigh 120. My left hip started hurting, went to doc, was x-rayed and told that my hip bone is deteriorating and that I need a replacement. Why is this happening and again the doc said have you been taking any of the osteo preventative drugs. Yes, I have but I no longer will.
Hip was replaced - I have a brand new shiny titanium hip with no pain whatsoever. I am celebrating number 81 tomorrow and am so healthy it scares me. I walk a mile each day, eat healthy with the exception of a candy bar often. Why eat candy - because I can......One day soon I will share my peanut butter fudge recipe - It's to die for.
My family doc said how about taking Vitamin D3 so I started a daily dose. Here's the kicker to prevent bone loss - I take 50,000 mg's per week. You can get a prescription and take one pill per week or take over the counter 5,000 mg twice a day for 5 days. My schedule is two pills per day, Monday thru Friday.
My story may be an isolated case but probably not. I have heard of a lot of people who are having problems as a result of the osteo preventative drugs. DON'T TAKE.......
