Re: My experience so far trying to cure Seborrheic Dermatitis
Update 9/4/2011
The protocol above had yielded pretty good results. However I still had redness that I wanted to deal with. I found a new dermatologist who is supposed to be a real hotshot. I went to see her on 8/15/11. I told her I was tired of doctors just giving me steroid creams. She agreed totally.
She set me up with Xolegel and Sumaxin. For 2 solid weeks those were the only two things I used. I washed with the Sumaxin twice a day and applied the gel to all affected areas once at night. On 8/29/11 I stopped the Xolegel and reduced the Sumaxin to washing with it once a day (usually in the morning). The results have been really good. As of today, 9/4/11, most of the redness has subsided. I would not say I have pristine skin but from a reasonable distance (I'm talking arms length) it looks clear which is an enormous improvement over the years that I suffered with pretty much constant redness and flaking.
At least so far this has all worked pretty well. I'm convinced that the problem is an overgrowth of a fungus or a bacteria. None of the doctors I have ever seen has been interested in testing my face to see what is actually growing there. In my own experimentation I found that spraying a mist of
H2O2 (Hydrogen-Peroxid) on my face would cause bubbling where the red spots are. That suggested to me candida but I can't be sure. However, the Xolegel is a broad spectrum fungicide so maybe the specific fungus doesn't matter. The sulfa drugs are broad spectrum anti-bacterial and the sulfur is an anti-fungal too. So what this current doc gave me seemed to cover all the bases.
I'll update again as conditions warrant. Also, in the original protocol I changed #1 to be a solution of baking soda AND
table salt . I think it is critical to knock down the fungus/bacterial populations in bedding and adding salt should help quite a bit. Any questions, suggestions, etc?
