Re: I Found Some Figures

Yep, your math is off I'm afraid. More importantly, you're forgetting a couple of things.

- That $830 billion is the amount of cash that exists in the world. Not the amount of US Dollars that exist. Most of our dollars have no physical presence and are merely an arbitrary number recorded by computers and backed up across the nation.

- You're ignoring circulation. The government gets their hands on money multiple times. When you get your paycheck, they get 20% of it or so, then when you spend it, they get almost 10% on the sale, and then 20% on the income of the company, and then 20% of it again when it is paid out to individuals and their income is taxed. And then they spend it and the process repeats.

Not to say the debt isn't enormous... it most certainly is. Thing is, it's a fiat currency, so ultimately you're right, it can't truly be paid back because nothing backs the currency, it's an arbitrary number that the Federal Reserve has made a habit of increasing regularly, especially lately, which devalues ALL of our money.
