Re: Chelation & Heartburn
Yeah I have that thorne publication and just re-read it when you posted :)
interesting stuff. It's true that ALA goes into the CNS and all parts of the nervous system but it also boosts intra and extra cellular glutathione and combats oxidative stress which is a very big role for ALA. How Cutler calls it the primary chelator I'm not sure, I asked him but he never did say anything about his reasoning for this. He says that DMSA and DMPS are optional but ALA is the primary. Currently, I view it the other way. DMSA and DMPS are chelators and ALA is a mobilizer and possible chelator but with a substance that performs more than 1 cellular function in the body, it's really impossible to say whether its helping excretion, protecting, chelating, removing and moving out of the cells in order for glutathione to do its job, or all the above. It does have the ability to move mercury and get into all parts of the body so in that respect it is good and cause also cause problems at large doses.
As a side note, Dr. Klinghardt also suggests that cilantro is a mobilizer and that it allows mercury to come out of the intracellular and other parts of the body so that it can be chelated, possibly much like ALA. The mechanism is unknown but it seems people use it and do fine but again, large doses would be ill advised.
Did you add the ALA on top of the DMPS?
