Alternative approaches to Chronic progressive external ophthalmoplegia (CPEO)

Greetings all,

For the past ten years I have had chronic issues with my eyes including dry eyes, pronounced ptosis, photo phobia, cataracts, chronic inflammation and irritation, etc

it came on rather suddenly in the late 90's in the form of severe eye infections that would wake me up in the middle of the night. This has mellowed, now the dropping eye lids are the primary concern as well as the photophobia and chronic irritation.

brain fog and allergies is also part of the picture.

I have been diagnosed with Chronic progressive external ophthalmoplegia (CPEO), which is a lame rare mitochondria disorder that is untreatable according to WM

there is remarkably little discussion on plausible causes from alternative holistic perspectives.

personally i suspect candida and or heavy metal issues, which i am trying to follow up on. I had a major trauma to my right eye in my mid twenty's which may of contributed to this.

I had two Amalgams removed from the upper quadrant four years ago which were about 15- 20 years old. I suspect mercury poisoning as I had many of the the other mercury signs in my early twenties. I have taken some lame stabs at chelation, but frankly I am very confused. Relief seems a long way off.

I would be interested in hearing some alternate views on this issue from other CPEO folks or alternative thinkers outside the western medicine box

many thanks!
