Re: Anti "alternative" medicine?
I can identify with this. There are certain sectors ( that is within the USA, where I reside) that are more knowledged and concerned with alternative and natural medicine, particularily the west coast states, California, Arizona, Utah, Washington, Oregon, New Mexico.
Manhy people are just uneducated when it comes to alterntive medicine.
I've lived in California and Arizona and there are hundreds of naturopathic doctors, fitness centers and health food stores there too. I now live in Oklahoma, where my husband wanted to retire and it's like a whole other world here. Like living back 20 years ago. They are so behind here and also many just are not into healthly lifestyles and probably "choose" not to bother.
Self educating is the best way. But, also, myself being a Christian, I believe when God created this world, He provided all we needed in its natural form, fruit from the trees, herbs, untainted fish from a clean ocean and yes beef, from cattle way back when....they were not given anti-biotics, steroids and they grazed off the green grasses.
Man has altered everything, and more so not for the better. ( adding nitrates, chemicals etc. to food, household cleaners, lotions, etc. ) When I look at a label for ingredianst and if I can't read it, I know it's bad for you.
But, on the other hand, there is a time and a place for everything too. Conventional doctors do know all the physics, chemistry, etc. and can save our lives in life demanding crisis, such as in trauma, emergency room, operating....etc.
Personally, I'd rather try the natural first, than the other. Sometimes going to an M.D. that practices both conventional, alternative and naturopathic is the best, as they are knowledged with the 8 years of general medical training plus the alternative medicine.
If only I had know all the info. I know today, 20+ years ago, I would have changed "A LOT" of things, in lifestyle and eating.
A good book to have on hand, that I have is "Prescription for Natural Healing" by Dr. James Balch. They have since created from the First edition to currantly Fourth edition.
