Pale stools, may be seen in hepatitis, gallbladder disorders, or food mal-absorption conditions.
Bile salts in the stool excreted by the liver give it a normal brown colour. Obstruction to bile flow out of the liver or problems in the biliary system (the drainage system of the gallbladder, liver, and pancreas are a common cause.
Some liver infections like viral hepatitis may produce clay coloured stools.
Mal-absorption problems can cause undigested fat in the stool (steatorrhea) which is characterized by foul smelling, light yellow to grey, greasy or frothy stools. This may also be caused by low bile output.
Whatever the cause, flushing will help to cure the problem but the programme consists of continuing until you are clear of stones.
