Strongyloidiasis treatment - at wits' end..
Had to get this out there in the hope that someone somewhere will identify with it.
I was finally diagnosed with Strongyloides in February (antibody test) after being infected for nearly a year since my placement in South America.
A tropical specialist treated me with 4 tablets of Ivermectin over two days, then sent me away for five months until the results of a 'follow-up' blood test. He, 'expects the outcome to be negative.' However, I've not seen the slightest improvement in the condition (crippling fatigue, migraines and gastrointestinal issues). The abdominal distention is the most uncomfortable and distressing symptom - I've tried what seems like everything but simply cannot get it to deflate.
In the meantime, a gastro specialist is treating me with harsh antidepressants and a programme of strenuous exercise which leave me exhausted. He refuses to investigate the abdominal swelling.
I just wondered whether anyone else has experienced this symptom of strongyloides and if it's normally such a fight to get it recognised. Any advice on what causes the abdominal inflammation and what I can do about it would be very much appreciated as it's really ruining my life.
Thanks,
