Having a huge conflict of interest on the other hand . . .

Should we have a person who owns a slaughterhouse be on a committee which oversees the safety of adding growth hormones and antibiotics to cows and/or rules on how humane feedlot practices are?

Should we have a person who works for British Petroleum, or has a big number of shares, sitting on a board and voting for less safety restrictions on deep sea oil drilling?

Having a stake in something which has paid you millions of dollars and continues to pay you millions is a conflict of interest which should not be allowed.

I have to wonder how you would feel about someone who owned a herbal supplement company sitting on a board which decided how herbal products could be marketed - especially if some of those products were offered as alternatives to vaccinations.
