The first thing to understand is that bacterial vaginosis (BV) is not related to poor hygiene. There is good and bad bacteria in your vagina and the optimal balance in PH must be achieved in order to not get infections. Infection occurs when the "bad" bacteria over powers the "good" bacteria. Optimal PH balance is between 4.0 to 4.8 on a scale of 4-8,the lower of the number being acidic and the higher being alkaline. Your vagina must be in the acidic range to be optimal.
The bacteria that causes BV is present in your vagina in small numbers all the time. When the "bad" bacteria is higher in number that is when you get "recurring" infections or BV. Acidophilus is a great supplement to take daily to help achieve the optimal PH and "good" bacteria balance. Purchase the Acidophilus with the highest active cell ingredients. I take one that has 6 billion active cells, you can take 3 pills per day.
There is also another product that I recommend using it's called rePHresh. (NOTE THE PH)
There is a PH tampon for when you are having your period and a Ph gel for after, rePHfresh
Use the gel only after your period has completely finished just before bed one evening. It may be a bit messy the morning after but it's worth it. Check it out online

I also recommend being aware of the things that can trigger the "bad" bacteria that upset the balance of PH in your vagina and can cause BV
LIST : Intrauterine devices (IUD) for contraception, recent
Antibiotic use, vaginal douching, over use of regular tampons- max 4 hrs. insertion time, cigarette smoking and multiple or "new" sexua| partners. However, the role of sexua| activity in the development of the condition is not fully understood, and bacterial vaginosis can still develop in women who have not had sexua| intercourse.
Semen is alkaline in nature, while the normal healthy vagina is acidic. Red meat apparently makes semen taste more acidic so maybe it will make it more acidic for the vagina too.
citric acid (Vitamin C) may also help you and your partner. Hope this information helps all the sufferers out there to regain control of the bacteria that causes BV.
