My cholesterol has been borderline to moderate high since around '94 (212-239). I've been hypothyroid at least that long (maybe longer) and only began to received treatment in 2003. Last time my cholesterol was checked (late last year), it was still 239 --- BUT my HDL is EXCELLENT -- around 66 or 67.

I hit menopause about a year or so ago and I really believe that having adrenal fatigue, and menopause has screwed with my cholesterol level. Will I ever take a statin? Heck no! Just as I won't EVER get a mammogram.

I've been taking about 300mg of LEF pregnenolone for quite a while (6-9 months) and it has significantly helped with the menopause symptoms. I've recently added some OTC topical estriol and progesterone (Gentle Pharmacy), and more of my menopause symptoms are going away (annoying stress incontinence) and my libido is coming back a bit. I just ordered some homeopathic testosterone (glandular based) and I'm hoping that will bring even more improvements!!!

I just ordered some individual methyl-b vitamins as well as ascorbyl palmitate, added to the Iodine co-factors that includes a gram of inositol hexaniacinate. I'll be interested to see what my cholesterol levels will be after being on the pregnenolone. And if no improvement, after being on the individual B's + the homeopathic testosterone for a few months. My diet is good by not fanatical by any means. I have a 13 year old teenager so we have snacks in the cupboard ... like cookies and chips and I occasionally will indulge. So the Sugar does have an effect on cholesterol. But what would life be without the occasional Oreo or chocolate chip cookie?

I've got to go back and see my doc this month and I'll get labs done. I've got a cortisol saliva test sitting on the counter... I just need to do the stupid thing. I tried a couple of weeks ago and I had such a dry mouth, I didn't have enough saliva to fill up the tubes, so I just rinsed it out and will try again.
