the key is to put your KI in a glass container and then slowly add distilled water to dissolve it. it will get really cold which changes the saturation point. add enough water so that there is a good layer of crystals still in the bottom of the container. let it get back up to room temp. you can place the container in a warm(tap water warm, not boiling hot so you dont break the glass) bath to speed the process. the last few crystals will dissolve at room temp when enough water is added. its good to have a mark at the place where your final solution should be. 125grams makes 125ml of solution. there is more KI than water in SSKI . thats why when you refrigerate it some of the KI falls back out of solution and forms new crystals on the bottom of the container.

if you have a few crystals still in the bottom and are afraid to add more water or want to make sure its a saturated solution, just leave them there. they wont hurt a thing and you know you have proper SSKI - 1ml = 1gram
