Psalm 72:1
“Give the king your justice, O God; and your
righteousness to the royal son!”
Solomon’s prayer for the king was indeed a noble one, for all the nations of the world need such a one to lead them; one who is righteous, just, and compassionate. History is redundant with tragic tales of people suffering under the heavy yoke of a cruel dictator. It is the preponderance of worthless, or evil, rulers, which makes the
relatively few good ones (such as in Israel and Judah’s history) stand out in such bold relief. Yes, the world cries out for such a ruler, but there is only one, King Jesus, who will fulfill people’s hopes and meet God’s righteous demands for the one who reigns over all.
