Terrible taking vitamin D

Hi,
I have low vitamin D.
D3 27.8 32.0-100.0
D2 12 10-75

When I take the vitamin d. My body hurts. My legs, (especially my calfs), hands & hips. The pain will stop after a couple of days, then I take it again & the pain happens all over again. I have only been taking 400 mg of the liquid vitamin d3. I take it before I go to bed with 100 mg. of magnesium, 25mgs of zinc and 500 mgs of C. I know that I need vitamin D because of the test. Can someone tell me why it makes me hurt so bad. What can I do about this? My mother has osteoporsis & said that the vitamin D did the same thing to her & she stopped taking it. I do not want to be like she is.( I love my mother greatly, but I see the pain she is in)
I also just had my calcium tested & it was 9.6 with a reference range of 8.7 - 10.2

Any suggestions or your thoughts would be greatly appreaciated. All I can find out about this is vitamin D overdose. I am not overdosing, but seem to have the same symptoms as overdosing with vitamin d.
Please give me some direction,
Thank You,
Lisa
